FRANKENFOOD

 Very new when compared to all the other words already posted, FRANKENFOOD came into existence in the 1990’s. It’s used informally for genetically modified foods, which are those that have been scientifically altered in some way and haven’t grown naturally. FRANKENFOOD is a combination of the words “Frankenstein” and “food” (Frankenstein is a story about a scientist, Dr Frankenstein, who creates a monster in his laboratory).  

             “I’m not eating in this restaurant. They use FRANKENFOODS!”

           “Opponents have been quick to use the label FRANKENFOOD for the new product.”

 

            “With a public that tends to be deeply suspicious of “FRANKENFOODS”, the EU banned the importing of such meat.”

Esta palavra da língua inglesa (FRANKENFOOD) é muito nova quando comparada com as outras já postadas anteriormente no Novocabulário Inglês. Ela teve origem nos anos 1990, e é geralmente usada para definir alimentos cientificamente alterados, ou seja, que foram geneticamente modificados e não se desenvolveram naturalmente (“transgenics”).

            “Eu não vou comer neste restaurante, eles usam alimentos transgênicos!”

“A concorrência logo achou um jeito de rotular o novo produto como ‘transgênico’”.
