Outros músicos da linha pop e rock também deixaram seu recado póstumo para John Lennon. Elton John compôs “Empty Garden” (“Jardim Vazio”) – (“What happened here / As the New York sunset disappeared / I found an empty garden among the flagstones here… / …And we are so amazed / We’re crippled and we’re dazed / A gardener like that one / No one can replace”) – (“O que aconteceu aqui / No momento em que o sol se punha em Nova York / Eu encontrei um jardim vazio aqui no meio dos paralelepípedos … / … E nós estamos tão espantados / Estamos enfraquecidos e confusos / Um jardineiro como ele / Ninguém poderá jamais substituir”).

Em 2012, Bob Dylan deu a sua contribuição com “Roll On John” (“Vá Em Frente, John”) – (“Doctor, doctor, tell me the time of day / Another bottle’s empty, another penny spent / He turned around and he slowly walked away / They shot him in the back and down he went / Shine your light / Movin’ on / You burned so bright / Roll on, John”) – (“Doutor, doutor, me diga que horas são / Outra garrafa vazia, mais um centavo gasto / Ele se virou e lentamente se afastou / Eles atiraram nas costas dele e ele caiu / Ilumine com a sua luz / E siga em frente / Você iluminou de uma forma brilhante / Vá em frente, John”).

Fred Mercury prestou seu tributo a John Lennon com a música “Life Is Real” (“A Vida É Real”), também composta em 1982 – (“Guilt stains on my pillow / Blood on NY terraces / Torsos in my closet / Shadows from my past / Life is real, life is real… / …Music will be my mistress / Loving like a whore / Lennon is a genius / Living in ev’ry pore / Life is real, so real”) – (“Manchas de culpa no meu travesseiro / Sangue nos terraços de Nova York / Estátuas de bustos no meu armário / Sombras do meu passado / A vida é real, a vida é real... / ... A música será a minha amante / Amando tal qual uma puta / Lennon é um gênio / Vivendo em cada poro / A vida é real, tão real”). 

O tributo de Paul Simon veio através de “The Late Great Johnny Ace” (O Finado Grande Johnny Ace”) – (“I was reading a magazine / And thinking of a rock and roll song / The year was nineteen fifty-four / And I hadn’t been playing that long / When a man came on the radio / And this is what he said / He said I hate to break it to his fans / But Johnny Ace is dead”) – (“Eu estava lendo uma revista / E pensando numa canção de rock and roll / Estávamos em 1954 / E eu não tocava havia muito tempo / Quando um homem interrompeu o programa de rádio / E isto foi o que ele disse / Ele disse – infelizmente eu tenho que informar aos seus fãs / Que Johnny Ace morreu”).   

Roger Waters, baixista do Pink Floyd, deu a sua contribuição em 1983 com “Not Now John” (“Agora Não, John”) – (“Not now, John / We’ve got to get on with the film show / Hollywood waits at the end of the rainbow / Who cares what it’s about as long as the kids go? / Not now, John / Got to get on with the show”) – (“Agora não, John / Nós temos que continuar com a exibição do show / Hollywood aguarda no fim do arco-íris / Quem se importa com o que isto signifique contanto que as crianças forem? / Agora não, John / Nós temos que prosseguir com o show”) e em 1984 David Gilmour, guitarrista do grupo, veio com “Murder” (“Assassinato”) – (“... I don’t want this anger that’s burning in me / It’s something from which it’s so hard to be free / But none of the tears we cry in sorrow or rage / Can make any difference or turn back the page”) – (“Eu não quero esta raiva que queima em mim / É algo muito difícil de se libertar / Mas nenhuma das lágrimas que choramos de tristeza ou ódio / pode fazer alguma diferença ou fazer voltar a página”).

The Cramberries gravaram “I Just Shot John Lennon” (“Eu acabei de matar John Lennon”), de Noel Anthony Hogan e Dolores Mary O’Riordan, de 1996 –  (“It was the fearful night of December eighth / He was returning home from the studio, late / He has perceptively known that it wouldn’t be nice / Because in nineteen-eighty he paid the price / John Lennon died, John Lennon died… / … With a Smith & Wesson thirty-eight / John Lennon’s life was no longer a debate…”) – (“Foi uma terrível noite de 8 de dezembro / Ele estava voltando para casa, vindo do estúdio, era tarde / Ele teve o pressentimento de que não seria legal / Pois em 1980 ele pagou o preço / John Lennon morreu, John Lennon morreu... / ...Com uma Smith & Wesson, 38 /  A vida de John Lennon não estava mais em discussão...”) .

O nome da música – “I Just Shot John Lennon” – consta ser a primeira frase dita pelo assassino Mark Chapman ao ser preso após disparar os tiros.
