DISCOMBOBULATED (FLUMMOXED) 

If you’re now feeling very DISCOMBOBULATED you are also FLUMMOXED. To FLUMMOX a person means to “confuse them a lot”. DISCOMBOBULATE (with meaning “confuse” or “frustrate”) was first recorded in the form “discomboberate” in the early 1800’s, and apparently originated as a humorous imitation oh hifalutin-sounding Latin words. FLUMMOX came into the English language in the middle of the 19^th century. It was taken from dialects used in some parts of the UK.

             “I felt DISCOMBOBULATED after working twelve hours a day for seven straight days…”

           “The cat was DISCOMBOBULATED until it learned its way back to the new house.”

 

            “Because I had not studied for the exam, I was FLUMMOXED by many of the questions”
